What does an explainer video cost in the UK?

By Cecelia · 02 Nov 2026 · Updated 06 Nov 2026

The short answer

A bespoke 60-second animated explainer from a UK studio typically costs £3,000 to £10,000, according to UK studio pricing guides updated in 2026, and simpler motion-graphics work can start around £1,500. AI-made explainers cost less because there is no animation team or film crew: ours are typically £300 to £1,500, quoted per brief.

What drives the price

  • Length. Most explainers are 60 to 90 seconds. Every extra second is more script, visuals and editing.
  • Style. Template motion graphics cost least; custom character animation costs most.
  • Script and voice. Whether you write it or the studio does, and whether the voice-over is a hired artist or AI.
  • Changes. How many rounds of revisions are included.
  • Versions. Extra sizes for each platform, other languages, shorter cut-downs.

What UK studios and freelancers charge

These are published ranges, checked in October 2026. They're asking prices, not quotes, and "explainer" covers everything from simple templates to fully custom animation.

  • UK studios, bespoke 60-second explainer: £3,000 to £10,000 (Media Village, updated April 2026)
  • UK studios, 60 seconds of 2D or motion graphics: £1,500 to £8,000, with custom character work often higher (ProfileTree, updated October 2026)
  • Freelance animators, a simple 30 to 60 second animation: £1,500 to £3,000 (Wise, updated October 2026)

Filmed video is priced differently: by the number of shoot days, the crew and kit needed, locations and editing time. Ask for a quote broken down by day.

Doing it yourself with an AI tool

AI video platforms let you make videos yourself for a monthly fee. In October 2026, Synthesia's Starter plan was US$19 a month and HeyGen's Creator plan US$29 a month. The fee is the cheap part: you still write the script, choose the visuals, check every line and cut the versions yourself.

What ours cost

We make explainer and product demo videos with AI, from your brief to the finished files. Typical projects are £300 to £1,500, quoted per brief before we start. The price depends on length, how many versions you need, and whether you want an AI presenter. Every video says plainly where AI was used.

When to spend more

If the video is the centre of a big launch, or it needs your real team, premises or customers on screen, a filming crew or a specialist animation studio is worth the money. See AI-made vs filmed video for when each makes sense.
